I woke up at 1am Tues (5/19) w/severe back pain and thought it was due to the bars in my back and sleeping funny. Well the pain was so bad I couldn't sleep, so I called my OB and she said it sounded like my kidneys. We went to L&D at 430am (I cried almost the whole way there!) We got put in the tiniest, more boring room and I was hooked up to a monitor for the baby. He was having party while I suffered! I was finally given Demerol for the pain and I passed out. After 5 hours of waiting, I got a sono and they saw stones. They said I had to wait for them to pass, so I was given a perscription for more Demerol (it is so strong--I see how ppl get addicted!) and told to take the rest of the week off.
On Wed, I around 3, I started noticing I was leaking something. At first I thought I was just losing bladder control due to the stones, a UTI and the fact that I was drinking buckets of water and the baby was making me pee myself (TMI I know). But then I noticed that my urine was colored from the UTI meds and the leaking fluid was clear. So then I was like uh-oh. When I stood is when it came out and when I called my OB she said it sounded more like discharge bc usually when you stand the baby's head will 'cork' the leak and it won't come out. It was like 6 when I called her and she said I could come to L&D to get checked, but I had an app the next day at 10am I figured I would just wait since I figured it wasn't my water.
So the next day (Thur) I'm at the doc and she's like, well you're not dialated or even very thinned and I bet it's just discharge, but let's check just in case. So I'm telling her how happy I am b/c I need to get back to school and I'm not ready for him to come. Well she comes back and she's like, I don't know if this is good news or bad, but it's your water. Go home, pack a bag and come back to get induced. When she said that I started cryng b/c I was soooo not ready.
So I called Jesse and he met me at home and we headed to the hospital. I got a room and hooked up to and IV around 2. I was contracting a little bit on my own, but not enough so they started Potocin. My OB told me that if things didn't move pretty fast, they were going to do a C-section bc my water had been broke for so long. Around 6 I was 3cm and my OB offered me the epi and I said YES! Then the anest. came in and he looked at my x-rays and was like well since it's a cathera that we insert you can get an infection to the bars. And after they messed w/your back they changed the way the nerves flow so there's no garuntee it will even work. I didnt have time for a second opinion and was kicking myself for not meeting w/someone ahead of time. So I said no epi and he told me he'd come back do a spinal block right before I pushed.
The contraction got really, really bad pretty fast. They gave me Stadal to "take the edge off" but all it did was knock me out between contractions. I almost made poor Jesse cry b/c I was begging him to make the pain stop. Around 10 they checked me and i was 8cm. They told me stand up to move thing along. Almost instantly I felt like i had to push, so they said to lay back down and to push to help relieve pressure. I was like, wait I want the spinal block, but my OB said, lets just see how it goes. Apparently it's only good for 2 hours and if I pushed for too long they were going to do a c-section and she didn't want to have to do general anesth for it. Well all of the sudden shes like OH, here comes the baby! So they get ready and I had to push w/no pain meds. I think Jesse almost cried then, too bc/ I was freaking out! After 30 mins, out he came!
It all happened so fast and my little boy was perfect-- 10:27pm 5.1 lbs, 18"
